SUNEET VARMA

Elephant Parade India

Suneet Varma for Elephant Parade India

Elephant Parade India will be India’s largest ever public art event. With a preview in November 2017, in Jaipur, 101 painted elephant sculptures will brighten the streets of Mumbai in February 2018 followed by a grand finale March in Mumbai. This will be followed by an auction event in London, during the same month.

Suneet Varma: I have followed the elephant parade project closely and saw the first one over a decade ago in London installed right outside the V&A museum. I have very interesting recall of looking at that particular art piece and feeling very inspired. The inspiration comes from Gustav Klimt’s paintings and the artwork represents a galaxy of love . Love that is omnipresent for all life – humans animals and fauna . Animals small and large have been endangered by the malice of humans for the past several decades . It’s really important to create collective awareness and for the elephant in particular . For too long the mammoth has been sacrificed for our gains – It needs to stop!
